Outdoor First Aid - A New Look

Back Packer First Aid KitIf you are passionate about your outdoor activities then you probably spend a serious amount of time and energy pursuing that passion. If you combine experience with that passion then you are will certainly be among the best prepared for that activity. That preparation should include a good quality, well thought out first aid kit.

There are a number of organizations that manufacture these types of kits and they provide the off the shelf convenience that we've come to enjoy in this internet driven marketplace.

However, if you are new to the outdoor experience or are looking for a fresh approach to outdoor first aid, then we offer here some thoughts for your consideration.

Clearly the kit you take on your outdoor adventures needs to be compact, lightweight, weather resistant and durable. Given those physical limitations then you must use the limited space to your advantage.

To get the biggest bang for your buck we recommend taking the time to think through just what you want to be prepared for and what you’ll need to include in your kit. You need to determine just how dangerous it is out there and how far away from help will you be?

The following questions should help you shape your first aid kit decisions.
  • Are you going to be out of cell phone range?
  • How long will it take for help to arrive?
  • Do you have then knowledge to treat the injuries you may incur?
  • What type of injuries can you reasonably anticipate?
  • Do you have the material you need to treat anticipated injuries?
How you answer these questions should stimulate some constructive ideas that you can use when you go shopping for the kit that suits your needs best.

At First Aid Supplies Online we've been building first aid kits of all kinds for over twenty years and we've got the kits and quality first aid products to meet the highest standards. At our website you can choose from a great selection of unique first aid kits, empty kit boxes and kit bags and cutting edge ( no pun intended ) first aid products so you can build your own.

Have a look at our Back Packer First Aid Kit, should be a great place to start.

A New Approach to Bleeding Control

first aid kit to stop bleeding in emergencyHow do you stop the bleeding? If you’ve been trained in basic first aid then you know about direct pressure, elevating the injury and pressure points to control bleeding all excellent techniques. If you aren’t trained then we hope you keep and first aid kit handy with a good first aid guide which would cover those techniques.

What happens when those techniques don’t work? Most of us are not prepared to apply a tourniquet and many serious bleeding injuries cannot be treated with a tourniquet. Of course we are going to call 911 but in the meantime what can you do if the bleeding continues? Serious bleeding can be life threatening and extremely time sensitive.

The good news is that you can be prepared for a serious bleeding injury without having to become a first aid expert. There are amazing new products available now that provide a completely different approach to stop the bleeding that anyone can use.

Those products we call “stop bleeding products” have been on the market now and in use for a number of years are very effective. In addition to being effective they are also relatively inexpensive and easy to use.
These exciting new products work equally well with people that are on blood thinning medication or suffer from bleeding disorders.

The way these products work and which one works best for any given situation does need to be addressed with some thoughtful consideration. There are a variety of products and brand names available with different ranges of effectiveness. For example, for a small cut or puncture wound you may want to select from Wound Seal ® Rapid Response, Blood Stop® Hemostatic Gauze or Bleed Arrest® Clotting Powder. These products are also effective on nose bleeds.

If you wanted to be prepared for more serious, life threatening bleeding then you’d want to consider Celox™Rapid Z-Fold, Celox™ Applicator or Celox™ Hemostatic Granules 15 gram package.

To familiarize yourself with our stop bleeding products we invite you to visit our Stop Bleeding Products category page. We believe that these products have become indispensable and are a must for your first aid kit at home, at work and on the go.
